Overview

All Internal Monitors return the matches to their queries and with some complicated SQL, you can reverse the query to return items that do not match. A Reverse Query option has been added to make this easier.

Note NOTE: Only tables that have a ComputerID column can be used in a reversible query and the results will always be computers and will show one result for each computer. Additionally, if the monitor is limited to a group, then it will only return computers that are associated with the group.

To create a monitor using the reverse query:

  1. From the Control Center, click on Monitors.

  2. Click on the Internal Monitors tab. The current list of internal monitors will display.

  3. Right-click in the Internal Monitors screen.
  4. From the menu that displays, select New Monitor.

  5. Select '<Start Fresh>' from the Available Monitors drop-down and click Next.

Note NOTE: The Status, Exclusions and History tabs will only be seen when viewing an existing monitor and will not be shown when creating a new monitor. Additionally, if the Monitor Mode and Duplicate Alert Frequency is set to 'Send Fail After Success' on the Configuration tab, you will not have the ability to set the Extra Conditions or Days to Run options.

  6. Enter a descriptive name for the monitor in the Monitor Name field. This will be the name that appears on the Internal Monitor list (e.g., ProcessX Not Running).
  7. Select the Interval and the Next Run Time for when this monitor should run. You can select the day to run by using the drop-down and manually entering the time. When selecting the interval and run time, be sure that it is not conflicting with existing schedules and that the monitor is not running too frequently. Refer to the Scheduling Internal Monitors section for additional information.
  8. Select the Monitor Mode and Duplicate Alert Frequency from the drop-down. If the Monitor Mode and Duplicate Alert Frequency is set to 'Send Fail After Success', the Reverse Query option is not available.
  9. In the Check Conditions section:
    1. Select the Table to Check (e.g., processes) from the drop-down.
    2. Select the field variable from the Field to Check (e.g., Name) drop-down.
    3. Select the Check Condition (e.g., equals) from the drop-down.
    4. Enter the Result (e.g., ProcessX) to compare to.
  10. Select Online Computers if you want this monitor to only check computers that are online and reporting at the time of the scan. This will ignore any computer that has not checked in within the last 15 minutes.
  11. Select Reverse Query to return all items that do NOT match the query. In the above example, the monitor will return results for all computers where ProcessX is not running.
  12. Select the days you want this monitor to run in the Days to Run section. By default, all days will be selected.
  13. Complete the other tabs, if necessary. Refer to the Internal Monitors documentation for step-by-step instructions or Monitor Configuration for a description of all fields by tab, if necessary.
  14. Click Add to add monitor.
