How LabTech Monitors

Through the use of SNMP, LabTech detects any Axcient device on the network in which there is a LabTech probe.  Once the Axcient appliance is detected, the LabTech probe will collect information based on the Axcient collection template available from the LabTech Marketplace.

What LabTech Monitors

The LabTech probe will collect device specific information (when enabled), as well as any configured job(s). LabTech has the following OEM monitors available for monitoring any Axcient device:

  • Axcient Device Configuration Changes
    • IP Address | DNS | Gateway
    • System Information
    • Software Updates
    • Recently Rebooted
  • Axcient Job Status
    • Last Job Status for Failures
    • Job Disabled
  • Axcient Hardware Information
    • Low Memory
    • Low Disk Space

The LabTech Axcient collection template can be expanded to collect additional information when applicable by simply adding additional collection rules available in the SNMP Probe Template Management screen.  Once additional rules have been in place, additional custom monitors may be built around the newly collected data. Refer to the Probe Template Management documentation for detailed instructions.

Installing the Monitor Set

Note NOTE: The Axcient monitor set and collection templates are not in the base build of LabTech.  To obtain the monitor set and collection templates, you will need to download them from the Marketplace (Tools > Marketplace). The monitor set can be found under the Monitor category and the collection templates can be found under the Probe category.

  1. From the LabTech server's Control Center, select Tools > LabTech Marketplace.  You will be prompted to confirm the scan of your system as shown by the following.  Click Yes to continue with the scan or click No to exit.
Note NOTE: The Marketplace can only be accessed from the LabTech server.

The scan process should only take a few seconds but can take longer if there are extremely large files in the LabTech share.  The progress bar (as shown below) will display the current status of the retrieval process.

If there are any problems with the initialization, you will see a window similar to the following with the initialization consistencies.

  2. Click OK to correct any inconsistencies on the local system as indicated by the above example or Cancel to close the Marketplace.
Once the initialization has completed, you will be presented with the LabTech Marketplace screen:

  4. Select the checkbox to the left of each Axcient monitor and click the Update button.
  5. Once added to the update queue, click Update to update the items.  A progress bar will display, similar to the following.  The top progress bar shows the overall update progress and the bottom progress bar shows the progress of the current item that is being updated.
